TASTE NOW!
This Sunday, GLAAD will toast mayor Gavin Newsom's work in the fight for same-sex marriage with its Long, Hot Summer bash (apparently, they haven't noticed the persistent fog). Orson will host the wining and dining, with playful dishes such as BLTs on sticks from Elizabeth Falkner, plus bites from the chefs of Jardinière, Bacar, Spruce, and more. A live performance by jazz singer Kellye Gray, auctions, and fashion shows will ensure that you toast and taste in style. Aug. 17, 5-8 PM, $75.

PARTY NOW!
The Mission Voices Summer program pairs local artists with youth and gives them the opportunity to tackle social and personal issues through art. The resulting photos, paintings, collages, sculptures, maps, silk-screened works, and multimedia address stereotypes and the artists' own identities. After the six-week intensive summer program, these kids are ready to party, and they'll kick off their two-week exhibition with a celebration and barbecue at Southern Exposure. Aug. 16, 2-5 PM.

GET SMART NOW!
What if a Jane Austen novel were put in a blender with a script for Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Thunderbird Theatre Company has the answer: Pride and Succubus, a play that spices up the 19th-century classic with some bawdy, blood-sucking fun. As if Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy's relationship wasn't complicated enough, in this version she's a stake-wielding vampire hunter and he's a tormented vampire. Some crazy kids today may think Jane Austen sucks, but Thunderbird Theatre says that she just sucks blood. Through Aug. 23, $17-25 sliding scale.
