Data nerds—they’re just like us. Except they take months of painstaking research to arrive at the same conclusion that most of us reached years ago: La Taqueria makes the best burritos in America.
538’s Burrito Bracket has concluded, and the winner was the Mission’s beloved institution. Anna Maria Barry-Jester, had this to say about trying their burritos with Nate Silver: “I watched Nate take his first bite, and I swear he achieved nirvana before my eyes. I got to work eating myself, and we munched in silence (except when I asked to borrow his second burrito because I’d dived into both of mine before I remembered to photograph them) until we’d each finished a burrito. You see, data-loving Nate had dined at top-ranking El Farolito, but this was his first time at La Taqueria. “I don’t want to bias you,” he said, “but this is really, really good,” pointing to two baskets left with nothing but foil and wax paper.”
Joining La Taqueria in the Final Four were El Paso’s Delicious Mexican Eatery, L.A.’s Al & Bea’s Mexican Food, and the Bronx’s Taqueria Tlaxcalli. But in the end, the carnitas burrito from the Mission—as was widely expected from the beginning of the tournament—beat them all.
Miguel Jara, the owner of La Taqueria, told Inside Scoop that he was “excited” by the win, but admitted he was a little confused. “I’m kind of old and don’t get on the computer. My kids are the ones that were talking about it and telling me what happened,” he said.
So there you have it: La Taqueria makes the best burrito in America, according to Nate Silver and his website. Now if they could please return to their regular blogging, and tell us who’s going to win that Rhode Island governor race. You know, the real stories.
