The eight-time Emmy-winning broadcaster is just like us: prepping for another Giants run for the pennant.
Amy Gutierrez has covered the Giants as a reporter, producer and MLB Network correspondent for years. She now hosts an IG Live show (@amyg) and coverage on the Giants’ YouTube channel. The former UC Davis volleyball star, who also wrote the bestselling children’s book Smarty Marty’s Got Game, sat down to talk with us about the upcoming 162- game marathon season.
Bold prediction for the Giants this year? No one—and I mean no one—is giving the Giants a chance in the NL West. So I boldly predict they will win the division.
Who should everyone watch this season? Logan Webb. He’s emerging as a leader and is a dark horse candidate for the NL Cy Young.
Word you’d use to describe the big rule changes in MLB in 2023? Why?
Which Giants player have you most enjoyed covering? Not fair— there are too many— but I’d say Brandon Crawford. Just a joy to work with and watch play every day. It’s been an honor to cover his career since he debuted.
Your typical in-season day? Mom duties in the morning, switching gears to teaching duties at Sonoma State. Drive into SF to conduct interviews pregame with players for Giants YouTube content. Stay through the game grabbing content for social, edit features for Giants YouTube page, and then emcee a postgame event for the Giants or Giants Enterprises.
Best advice you ever received? My mom told me you always have to look at yourself in the mirror. If you aren’t happy with what you see, you can’t be happy as a mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend.
