What is your must-eat avocado dish? Share it with us in our California Avocado Recipe Contest and win a Grand Prize of $1000!
Together with the California Avocado Commission, we are selecting the best California Avocado recipes in the state.

THE WINNINGS

One (1) Grand Prize winner will receive:

$1000 cash Grand Prize
1 $400 gift card that may be used towards a dinner of the winner’s choice; and a prize pack including California Avocado merchandise (Approximate Retail Value: $125)

Three (3) Runners-Up will receive:

A prize pack featuring California Avocado merchandise (Approximate Retail Value: $125).

HOW TO PARTICIPATE TO WIN

Grab a fresh California Avocado and get ready to share your recipe with the world.
Submit your recipe and capture a photo of your creation!
Submit your recipe and photo on our website between April 12, 2021 – May 21, 2021

Top 10 Recipes will be chosen based on creative presentation and use of the California Avocado, before submission to a local chef to determine one winner and three runners-up.
Grand Prize Winner will be notified in June 2021 and the winning recipe will be featured on our California magazine website.

* The Grand Prize winning recipe will be featured in a promotional video on the Modern Luxury website with a Modern Luxury chef recreating your dish!

CONTEST ENTRY CATEGORIES

Submission entries will be identified in one of three categories, as detailed below. Three finalists will be chosen, one from each of the categories. The recipe contest’s overall winner will be chosen out of all recipes received, regardless of category.

Must include a high quality, horizontal, original photo taken and owned by submitter
If avocado is not clearly visible in the dish, must include a half California Avocado in the frame

CONTEST ENTRY - RECIPE GUIDELINES

*All entries that do not follow the rules and guidelines are subject to disqualification.

Use at least ¼ Fresh California Avocado per serving
California Avocado must be the hero of the recipe, meaning its use is clearly showcased in the recipe, and does not only serve as a sauce or topping
Standard serving size of four (4) servings
Cook time and prep time must be included
Use readily available ingredients
Complete ingredients list and instructions
Be totally original and owned by recipe submitter

Include an original photo owned by recipe submitter
Recipe has not been previously published or appear anywhere else
Recipe does not include brand names in ingredient list (OK to reference a specific variety of an ingredient)
Recipe does not contain any third party copyrighted or proprietary material or otherwise infringe on the intellectual, property or other rights of a third party
Recipe cannot contain the image of any person or any trademarked, brand name or logo
Recipe will be reviewed, approved or declined as submitted

ELIGIBILITY

Only open to legal residents of California who are age 21 or older.
To be eligible to win, your recipe must include at least one California Avocado (one-fourth of a California Avocado per recipe serving) and follow all rules and guidelines. Entries must be the original recipe of the entrant and not previously published. Previously published recipes will be disqualified. Decisions regarding qualifications of recipes are at the sole discretion of Modern Luxury.
Entrants may not submit content that contains, any elements that violate a third party's copyrights or trademark rights in or to a recipe (or otherwise) and that content should not depict any individuals that have not granted permission to be featured.

Finalist will be required to sign releases that they have complied with the rules, their content is original and does not infringe or violate any third party rights, or other laws and entrant holds all necessary rights to allow Modern Luxury (Company) and California Avocado Commission (Sponsor) to publish and/or post the recipes and provided in accordance with Company's terms of use and standards of conduct for online content, which can be found at: https://modernluxurymedia.com/terms-of-service.
Entrant bears the responsibility for all recipes and content provided, and all recipes and content provided will be owned by Sponsor. Company and Sponsor are not liable for any content or recipes and recipe photos provided; Company in its sole discretion reserves the right to remove or refuse posting or publishing any entries.
All entrants warrant that they have read and complied with contest rules and regulations provided.

CONTEST EVALUATION GUIDE

Utilizing the above submission criteria, an evaluation guide will be used by the judges of the contest to reference when making selections.

Please note, the judges at Modern Luxury will initially judge on a 1-10 scale for taste (perceived taste based on the ingredients), creativity of use of California Avocado and appearance, according to a representative from Modern Luxury, followed by a tasting scale for finalist recipes which will be tested through recipe testing to determine the winner.
