Off the Grid
Art + Soul Oakland:
What: Two days of music, food, art and family fun.
Where: Downtown Oakland
Cost: $10
Why: Because it features musicians like L.A. Soul singer Leela James, jazz guitarist Ray Obiedo, R&B/Funk Group ConFunkShun and (weridly) Lisa Loeb.
Oakland Art Murmur:
What: A First-Friday-of-the-month art walk with open galleries and art studios, live music, drinking, and food trucks.
Where: Uptown Oakland
Cost: FREE
Why: Because it's the hippest place to be seen—and see art.
Saturday Stroll:
What: The daytime equivalent of Art Mumur.
Where: Uptown Oakland
Cost: FREE
Why: Because you're not into the crowds; you're actually into the art.
MAPP—Mission Art & Performance Crawl:
What: The kid-sister equivalent to Murmur, but in the Mission.
Where: The Mission (it's loosly organized so, ironically, there is no map for "MAPP")
Cost: FREE
Why: Because you didn't make it to Art Murmur or you're going out in the Mission anyway.
Bank Of America Free Museum Weekend:
What: Bank Of America card-holders get free admission to six of the Bay Area's museums the first weekend of the month.
Where: Museums around The Bay
Cost: FREE
Why: Because you want to take advantage of Bank of America, and because it includes the De Young, the Legion Of Honor, the Contemporary Jewish Museum and more.
Castro Theater Sing-Along:
What: A sing along to R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet.
Where: Castro Theater
Cost: $12
Why: Because you've been waiting to belt it out in public and rehash the drama.
Phish Concert:
What: Uh...A Phish Concert
Where: Bill Graham Civic Auditorium this Saturday and Sunday nights.
Cost: $60
Why: Because you're a Phish Head?
