SF Sketchfest

What: What began as a simple showcase of San Franicsco comedy troupes has, in its 13th year, evolved into a nationally renowned melting pot of top-tier comedians, local favorites, and the hottest up-and-coming funny people around the country. Sketch, standup, improv, competitive erotic fan-fiction. Whatever your flavor, you'll find it in this truly impressive festival lineup.

Cost: Varies.
Why: Because laughter.

Chinese New Year Mini-Parade and Flower Fair

What: Prepare for the Lunar New Year with a procession of colorful costumes, acrobatic performances, and all sorts of traditional Chinese revelry. Family-friendly and fun, catch a glimpse of Mayor Lee and the Dragon (sounds like the title of a children's book, doesn't it?) before sauntering over to the nearby Annual Flower Fair.
Where: St. Mary's Square; Pine St. and Quincy St.
When: Saturday January 25th, 10:00 am-8 pm
Cost: Free
Why: Because Saturday mornings were made for sensory stimulation and minimal effort.

Battle of the Decades DJ Party

What: A dance journey through music and cheap booze: 7pm brings 70's music and $1 drinks, 8pm brings 80's music and $2 drinks, and so on and so forth until the break of the Millenium.
Where: Monroe; 473 Broadway Street
When: Friday, January 24th, 7pm-2am
Cost: Free entry. Drinks start at $1 and progress through the night. Tacos start at $1.50 and stay cheap and delicious all night.
Why: It's a room of 20-somethings grooving to sing-alongs and actin' a fool. If that appeals to you, git it.

Australia Day Party & Sausage Sizzle

What: The 2nd Annual Australian-themed beer olympics and sausage sizzle-off, featuring drinking games like 'Down Under' Beer Pong, Two-Up, Aussie Thong Slide, Boomerang Flip, and various other Aussie-themed shenanigans I've never heard of.
Where: Cosmo Lounge, 440 Broadway Street
When: Saturday, January 25th, 7pm-2am (Sausages hit the grill at 5 pm)
Cost: Free entry before 10 pm with Facebook RSVP; $2 beers before 9:30; $3 afterwards
Why: Because drinking with Australians makes you a tougher human.

Muir Woods Earth Day

What: An annual volunteer day in the lofty redwoods of Muir Woods. Projects include deck flossing, tending the forest floor, and miscellenous trail maintenence.
Where: Muir Woods National Monument; 1 Muir Woods Road, Mill Valley CA
When: Saturday, January 25th, 8:30am-1pm
Cost: Free.
Why: Trees are good company. Why not enjoy their majesty and help em out all at once?
