What: A nine-film marathon of some of the late, great actor's best work.
Where: Nourse Theater, 275 Hayes Street (between Van Ness & Franklin)
When: All day Saturday and Sunday (Full schedule here)
Cost: FREE
Why: Sometimes, the recently deceased get undue amounts of praise. Philip Seymour Hoffman is not one of those people.
Red Bull Music Academy, Public Works, and Deep Blue present Carl Craig and Francois K
What: Two legendary dance DJ's throw down in two rooms, while the loft upstairs displays local talent including Ghosts on Tape, Shawn Reynaldo, and others.
Where: Public Works SF
When: Saturday 7 pm to Sunday 3:30 am
Cost: $18 pre-sale, $20+ at the door
Why: With more than 50 years of DJ experience between these two guys, the show won't dissapoint.
What: Crazies dress up like crazy people. Then they jump in the Bay.
Where: Aquatic Park at Van Ness
When: Saturday. 5k registration begins at 8:30 am, 5k starts at 9 am. Plunge registration starts at 11 am, and the Plunge occurs at noon.
Cost: Free to watch. $45 minimum for the 5k. $125 to freeze yourself.
Why: Because it's for a good cause. Plus jumping into the Bay.
Cool Runnings Olympics Costume Party
What: An Olympic-themed costume contest featuring ice luge shots, jello shots, and a Jenga competition. With shots.
Where: Kezar Pub, 770 Stanyan St.
When: Friday, 7 pm to Saturday 2 am
Cost: FREE
Why: Because Olympic fever is fun. Adding costumes and liquor is even better.
