Menu Reveals
Jackson Square’s hot shot robata grill restaurant Roka Akor (801 Montgomery Street) is opening in early July, so now is as good a time as any to have a first look at the menu. Remember, Roka has related outposts in London, Scottsdale, AZ and Chicago, but the team says they’ll be taking an appropriately seasonal and less steak-y approach here in San Francisco. Chef Roman Petry has leaked the robata grill part of the menu to us. Take a look at it here, and note that all of these items will be fired on a large robata: a huge focal point in the dining room, encircled by a burnt wood counter where ten guests will get an up-close look at the action. There will also be sushi, soup, and appetizers—not to mention, a whiskey- and shochu-centric drinks program from ex-Alembic bar manager Daniel Hyatt at the “underground” bar.

Opening Wire
The Four Seasons new MKT (757 Market Street) restaurant and bar has been open for a few days now. Here, you can expect a lighter and more casual vibe to go along with the restaurant’s epic views of Market Street. For a preview look at the food, check out this post.

A16 (5356 College Ave.) number three is officially open in Rockridge, and Tablehopper has an extensive look at all of the ways it differs from the one in the Marina. The food, which focuses more on the Puglia region, will include a fully-baked bread program. There will also be innovative pizzas—like a lightly fried pie and another that is raquet-shaped and cut with scissors. Check out some serious food porn action here.

New Nob Hill bistro Mason Pacific (1358 Mason Street) is a little over a week old now. There’s a nice shot of the interior here on their Facebook page and you can have a look at the menu here in the San Francisco archives.

Roxy’s Café chef Manny Torres Giminez just opened The Palace (3047 Mission Street), where he now has a much more substanital kitchen with which to play. As we explained earlier, the restaurant will offer substantial $50 five-course tasting menus. Serious Eats got a sneak peek of several dishes.

New Bars
Eater has a 360 degree look around Redford (673 Geary), the new and rather stylish American-themed bar with food that has replaced The Ambassador in the TenderNob.

A few other bars for you to check out: 1) Fig & Thistle (313 Ivy Street) is a cozy new wine & beer bar now open in Hayes Valley. 2) Novela (662 Mission Street), a new literature-themed bar owned by Kate Bolton (bar manager and partner at Maven) and Alex Smith (Honor Bar) and designed by LA-based Jacek Ostoya of Gold Grenade. The drink menu includes classic cocktails and—here’s a first—punch on-tap.

Awards Season
The San Francisco Architectural Heritage organization has announced new inductees to its “Legacy Bars & Restaurants” preservation initiative. The top honorees, decided by popular vote, include Gino & Carlo (est. 1942), Mitchell’s Ice Cream (est. 1953), Philosopher’s Club (est. 1960), Pier 23 Café (est. 1937), and Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant (est. 1965). One Last Thing
Pizzaiolo and Bar Tartine are teaming up for a county fair fundraiser at Pizzaiolo at the end of the month. There will be music, sausage sandwiches on Tartine buns, punch for the kids and cocktails for adults. There’s also a pie and jam making contest for competitive home chefs. Proceeds go to the Conductive Education Center of San Francisco. More info and tickets here.
