Diego Rivera on display at the Oakland Museum of California
Carolyn Alburger, Associate Editor: The Cavalier opens tonight in SoMa and I'm digging the decor of the restaurant, designed by Ken Fulk. The "Blue Bar" room facing Fifth St. is lined with gorgeous smoky teal blue booths and a dramatic file of Moroccan lamps overhead. The feel is old money New York meets London glam—a nice change of pace in our land of sustainable wooded restaurants (not that there's anything wrong with those)."
Ellen Cushing, Senior Editor: This solid-gold SF Craigslist ad made the rounds this week, and for good reason. I tweeted this out the other day, which apparently caused Jezebel to write it up, which then led to not one but two reporters asking to talk to me about the mattress. so, for the record: I'm just a messenger here!
Scott Lucas, Web Fellow: I'm an over-educated demi-Jew who writes for a living. I am required by law to rush out to see Blue Jasmine after work tonight. Here's my favorite joke he ever told: "I was thrown out of NYU my freshman year, I cheated on my metaphysics final. I looked within the soul of the boy sitting next to me."
George McIntire, Intern: I have been listening to nothing but Kanye's "Yeezus" for the past month and a half.
Caleb Pershan, Editorial Fellow: Everyone is doing Blurred Lines covers—is this the new Harlem Shake? Is anyone still Harlem Shaking? At least this goes back to roots, with the Roots and Robin Thicke himself.
Jenna Polito, Intern: I got my hands on some Crack caramel this week, and it's fantastic (and deserving of its name). They're based in L.A., but if you have a serious sweet tooth you can order a 45-piece "Crack Batch" here.
Katy Quigg, Intern: I am currently obsessing about Postmates. This is an app for the ultimate lazy person. You can get food, clothing, or even your favorite Apple product delivered to you anytime. I love the fact that you order from Neiman Marcus. So dangerous!
Jenna Scatena: Audio Discotech—the new SoMa club opening August 16th. I went to the preview last night and fell in love with the craft cocktails, lowered dance floor, and plush booth seating. And the sound acoustics are amazing!
Jon Steinberg, Editor-in-Chief: The New Yorker article by Gary Shteyngart about wearing Google Glass around New York City was completely hysterical. From the moment I read the photo caption, I was hooked: "I hear that in San Francisco the term 'Glassholes' is already current, but in New York I am a conquering hero."
Stevanie Wazna-Blank, Intern: Orange is the New Black. The new Netflix original tv series based on the true story of a woman serving her prison sentence for a crime she committed 5 years ago. Somehow, I'm hooked on the inner workings of a women's prison—the hierarchy, the hazing, the power-trips, the characters and the down right dirtiness of it all.
