What We're Obsessed With Right Now (exist) - 4

Compiled by Caleb Pershan | August 28, 2013 | Lifestyle Story City Life

Jon Steinberg, Editor-in-Chief: NPRCodeSwitch's @todayin1963 feed, live-tweeting as if it were 50 years ago. You get these fascinating, out-of-nowhere moments, like this P.A. message broadcast onto the Washington Mall during the famous MLK march: "'Would someone please return Jackie Robinson's son?'" And this: "'I'm ashamed of my race,'" George Rockwell, American Nazi Party leader, says as he leaves the March with 70 counter-rally supporters." Mind-blowing.

Scott Lucas, Web Editor: I have a meta-obsession with the obsession over the Real World San Francisco. I watch a lot of television, but I've never seen the show—and I would have guessed it had been off the air for years. It's cool to see how the memories of the show the last time it was here— twenty years ago?—play out now.

Jenna Scatena, Associate Editor: The new cocktail menu at Hakkasan: The burnt lavender sazerac and Fernet julep (bourbon, fernet, mint, ginger, and spiced part infusion) are my favorites.

Carolyn Alburger, Associate Editor: Enotria, the restaurant that is single-handedly trying to put Sacramento on the Michelen star map. If one of Michelin's anonymous eaters happens to try chef Pajo Bruich's pork belly with bacon panna cotta, pickled peaches and pureed cornbread, I'd say they've got a very good shot. And yes, I did say pureed cornbread—it tastes like cake batter a very good way.

Sara Deseran, Editor at Large: Spending some quality time on Spotify (how I love thee Spotify) reconnecting with one of my San Francisco favorite bands—no, one of my favorite bands, period—Thao & The Get Down Stay Down. In a very apropos Orange-is-the-New-Black moment, their new album We the Common is inspired by Thao's time with the California Coalition for Women Prisoners. Read more here.

Jenna Polito, Editorial Intern: I just started reading local author Yangsze Choo's debut novel The Ghost Bride. The story combines Chinese folklore with historical fiction, romance and fantasy, and so far it's been receiving rave reviews on Goodreads and Amazon.

Caleb Pershan, Editorial Fellow: Loved the movie Clear History, available on HBO. The real star of this Larry David and Jon Hamm one-off Elon Musk story is whoever did David's hair and beard—he looks like a different, even weirder person.

George McIntire, Editorial Intern: This song is electro twerkiliciousness
