Apocalypse How?

Theodore Gioia | February 4, 2014 | Lifestyle Story Culture

The state is in the midst of the worst drought in half a millennia. The government has declared a state of emergency. Water is rationed while wildfires ravage the countryside. Catholic bishops call congregations to pray for showers, and Mormons and Muslims join together in beseeching God for rain like the prophet Elijah. The default tone of this discussion seems to be apocalyptic, and the drama of the drought is downright biblical. With the line between California weather and the End Times becoming blurrier every day, I created this little quiz to see if you can tell which of the following features of the drought do not also appear in the Book of Revelation. (Hint: It could be more than one. A lot more.)

1. Fires shall burn the forests of the earth and scorch all green grass

2. The birds shall flee from the land

3. The beasts of the earth shall rise early from their slumber filled with hunger

4. The price of wheat shall rise and a quart of grain shall cost a day’s wage

5. Man will leave his fields fallow and sell his livestock

6. The rivers and springs of water shall be spoiled with the waste of the earth

7. The creatures of the sea will die and the rivers shall dry up

(ANSWERs: 1. Both; 2. California; 3. Calfornia; 4. Both; 5. California; 6. Both; 7. Both)
