Hi Tops

This Castro favorite is a great place to grab a bite and watch the big game—whatever the sport may be. The menu is full of diverse delights from salads and bowls to sandwiches, burgers, breakfast until 3 p.m. and more, but of course, the nachos make this a must-visit. Hi Tops isn’t playing around with its "huge killer nachos" offered in full and half portions. Chow down on homemade tortilla chips covered in melty pepper jack and cheddar cheese, piled high with avocado, black beans, pickled jalapenos, salsa and sour cream.

El Buen Sabor

The Mission is famous for its burritos and authentic Mexican fare. Of course, it’s going to have some great nachos! El Buen Sabor is a local favorite for its broad menu, and its nachos come in a few styles. Enjoy the nachos super with your choice of meat, beans, cheese, guacamole, sour cream and salsa, or make that order vegetarian with all the fixings and no meat. You can also order a simple nachos regular vegetarian with beans, cheese and salsa. Currently, El Buen Sabor is temporarily closed to fix some structural damage, but the restaurant expects to be up and running in August of 2024. Check the website to see if this awesome spot has reopened and help them celebrate!

El Castillito

This taqueria has been serving full plates and smiles since 1989, and while you should definitely try the all-day breakfast items, hefty burritos, delicious quesadillas and tasty tacos, we’re here to talk nachos. Fans can’t get enough of the super nachos, which come with chips, beans, cheese, jalapenos, guacamole, sour cream and your choice of meat. The al pastor is recommended, but of course, you can try them all and find your favorite. You can also make your nachos vegetarian or simple with chips, beans, cheese and jalapenos.

El Farolito

Straightforward and to the point, this classic taqueria is an order-at-the-bar type spot serving nachos that are simple but extremely delicious. Dig into regular nachos with corn chips, refried beans, sour cream, avocado, jalapenos, melted cheese and salsa; or go big with an order of the super nachos, which includes corn chips, refried beans, sour cream, melted cheese, avocado, jalapeno, salsa and your choice of savory meat or eggs.

Caliente Bistro Kitchen

While it's not the most traditional restaurant on our list, this menu is packed with flavor. You can get everything from tortas and tacos to a Cuban chicken sandwich, but when you're in the mood for nachos, we recommend the steak nachos. You actually get your choice of protein, plus cheese sauce, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream and jalapenos. You can even order the same on fries. The regular nachos or fries are also available without protein.

Underdogs Tres

Located just outside Golden Gate Park’s Botanical Garden, Underdogs Tres transforms local ingredients into modern taqueria gold. The tacos and burritos are fantastic, but the nachos son muy grande must be seen and believed. Enjoy a heaping plate of chips covered in pinto beans, Monterrey Jack cheese, pico de gallo, jalapenos, guacamole and Mexican sour cream. Add chicken, pollo asado, carnitas, chorizo, carne asada or al pastor protein for an extra-filling kick.
