Brand To Know: Good Acre

Lauren Murrow | February 4, 2013 | Story Fashion

The trio of twentysomethings behind Mission button-down label Taylor Stitch are venturing below the belt with their latest project. They teamed up with Aaron Mutscheller, brand advisor behind Sausalito furnishing company Serena & Lily, to launch Good Acre, a single-focus company that nails the causally rolled cuff.

"We started with grandiose ideas about reinventing old-time classics," says codesigner Mike Maher. "But at the end of the day, all we wanted were some really good pants." Modeled after Carhartt's indestructible double-knee dungarees, Good Acre's cotton-duck work pants preserve the hardiness of the original while slimming down the drop-crotch, wide-leg fit.

The foursome tested prototypes for nearly a year, loaning pants to biking, building, beer-brewing, and camping friends. ("One guy texted me from the farmers' market last week: 'I've had five strangers come up and touch my pants,' reports Maher.)

The pairs come in ten hues, from charcoal gray and black to jaunty barn red and olive. Up next: a corresponding women's range this spring. Established: November 2012

Founders: Mike Maher, Barrett Purdum, Mike Armenta, and Aaron Mutscheller

The Goods: Hardy cotton duck-canvas work pants that actually fit. ($128)
