California Drought Is Reportedly Causing a Severe Weed Shortage

Scott Lucas | August 29, 2014 | Lifestyle Story City Life

The California drought is bad for suburban lawns. It's bad for big water customers here in the city. And it's bad for people just trying to unwind after a long day at work. That's right: California is experiencing a marijuana shortage.

At least that's what we learned from Motherboard just now. And if there's one thing we trust them on, it's vacationing in North Korea. But if there's something else we trust them with, it's pot news.

The story says that's there really two culprits to us not getting our buzz on. The first is the drought, of course, which has hit agriculture—from tomatoes on up—hard. The other? The newly-legalized markets for weed in Washington and Colorado, which—though risky to transport to—command high prices. Put those two factors together, and the kush that does hit the California market is, according to one expert, "garbage."

Oh well. We'll always have Napa wine. Oh wait....
