California Attorney General Kamala Harris is often mentioned on the short list of candidates to run for Governor or Senate. (She's also been called the "best looking Attorney General" by President Obama.) But today she's making news of a little more personal nature: Harris got engaged.
Her boyfriend, Los Angeles attorney Douglas Emhoff, did what the Chronicle called "the classic proposal thing" dropping to one knee with a simple platinum and diamond engagement ring at Harris' SoMa apartment a few weeks ago. (Dude, you're so close to the ballpark—why not pull a Kimye?)
So just who is Harris' betrothed?
Gossip columnist Leah Garchick runs us down the bill of particulars: "Emhoff was born in New York and went to law school at the University of Southern California. Married once before, he divorced four years ago and has two 'beautiful kids,' said Harris, one in college and one in high school. The two met on a blind date, set up by a close friend of Harris'. They are both 49 years old, he older by a week. She travels back and forth between Northern and Southern California for her work, as does he (his firm has an office in San Francisco). They plan to be bi-Californian, living in both places at once."
According his bio on martindale.com, Emhoff, a graduate of USC's law school, is the partner-in-charge of his law firm's LA office. He's a corporate litigator whose past clients include NBC Universal, Lionsgate, CNN/Turner, and Walmart. In 2013, he helped to write a White House Draft Nepa and CEQA integration handbook, but more importantly, "The Ninth Circuit affirmed a defense summary judgment Mr. Emhoff's team obtained for an advertising agency in the high-profile Taco Bell Chihuahua case."
