California Academy of Sciences,
San Francisco

Up on the (living) rooftop, reindeer pause—looking, in this case, as if they just arrived from the North Pole. Meet Miles and his buddy (whose name was still being decided by contest at press time), the two reindeer that the California Academy of Sciences “hired” for its second annual “’Tis the Season for Science” exhibition. (That’s entomologist David Kavanaugh dressed as Santa in the background.) Eighteen and seven months old, respectively, the two critters love munching on graham crackers, carrots, and the greens atop the museum’s apparently edible roof, which they’ll be pruning until January 16.
