The iconic SF hotel offers special holiday packages, plus chic cocktails and New Year’s Eve bash in the iconic Redwood Room.
Earlier this month, I checked into one of San Francisco’s most storied properties, the Clift Royal Sonesta, which has undergone an extensive (and pricey) renovation. The hotel, which opened in 1915, remains aesthetically tied to a brilliant architectural past while updating public and private areas with plenty of modern touches.
In other words, this place is ready for its close-up, especially during the holidays. My stay included the stunning 1,175-square-foot, 15th-floor apartment space once occupied by the hotel’s original owner, Frederick Clift. Gilded is the operative word here, with a massive conference room flanked by a living room complete with fireplace, sectional and full kitchen. The other wing includes a sumptuous bedroom with a seating area and an exceptional bath. Views, naturally, are staggering. And, depending on the room, your vantage point can take in most of the city.
The Clift offers this room as part of its Celebrate The Holidays Like Fredrick package, accommodating up to four guests. The package includes two nights in the private apartment and the adjacent junior suite, roundtrip VIP black car service, Louis Roederer Cristal and Tsar Nicoulai Reserve caviar welcome amenity for four, breakfast for four in Fredericks, a private chef’s tasting menu featuring a four-course meal with wine pairings by the hotel’s Michelin-starred executive chef Daniel Corey—all followed by drinks in Redwood Room.
Another staycation option includes the Holiday Suite Deal, where guests can save up to 25% off The Clift’s newly renovated suites that are inspired by the Pan American Pacific International Exposition of 1915. The design honors the notion that the hotel was built to cater to attendants of the Expo.
Looking for a New Year’s Eve option? The Redwood Room, the city’s legendary nightlife destination (the bar alone is a massive lure, literally and figuratively), is a cornerstone of the Take the Elevator Home New Year’s Eve package. Ring in 2023 with multiple DJs, a red-carpet entrance, multiple rooms of dancing, a midnight countdown, a balloon drop and free party favors. We also love the package’s 10% discount off the BAR and late check-out (2 pm!). The package is available on Dec. 30 and 31, and this exclusive package includes two general admission tickets for the Redwood Room New Year’s Eve party. Start picking out those slinky dresses and dapper looks now.
