Founded by Cecilia Caparas Apelin and Alexis Laurent as an artistic sanctuary in the East Bay, Ciel allows artists the opportunity and necessities to create freely. The venue’s expansive studio spaces, captivating natural light and intricate greenery create an open environment where energy and creativity flow. The most recent exhibition, Homebody, which debuted late last month, is an immersive art installation by internationally acclaimed artist Hueman. Inside Ciel’s studio, the exhibition spans more than 20,000 square feet, featuring awe-inspiring large-scale pieces. Featuring eclectic works grounded in math and science, Tauba Auerbach’s first museum survey exhibition, S v Z, is on display at SFMOMA. In the prolific works presented, which were created over the course of 17 years, the New York-based Bay Area native explores matters of duality, connectedness, rhythm, form and reason through a wide range of materials and techniques, including weaving, glass working, 3D printing and more. The exhibition questions what and how we perceive by testing the boundaries of systems such as language, logic, geometry and physics. Through May 1, 151 Third St.
