What is San Francisco talking about all day on Twitter? We always assumed that the Bay's part of the Twittersphere was nothing more than retweeting bon mots from @KarlTheFog. But it turns out that we're talking about so much more than just the weather. Like Muni. And beer. And the Giants.
London-based social analysis company Peerindex just released the top 35 local Twitter hashtags for San Francisco and New York City. To get the data, they looked at 2.8 million tweets a day over the 30 days leading up to March 5th. And what can we glean from the rankings?
Well, we love to talk about transportation. The top two spots are about Muni, followed by BART at number nine. We're also a bit lush, with San Francisco Beer Week taking number three and #winechat at number 17. We hate to say it, but we also seem a bit, well, self-obsessed, with plenty of hashtags like #sf or #goldengate bridge rounding out the list. There were also quite a few tech-oriented items, including number five, #crunchies, which refer to the Crunchies, natch.
As for New York City, well, we just feel bad for them. The big trend in their top hashtags was complaining about the cold weather.
