Indoor Infestation

With five months come and gone, the battle of the fleas still rages on. While some have been exterminated (Candlestick was canceled due to the 49ers’ schedule) and others still hold strong (good ol’ Alameda), the Treasure Island Flea is really taking off. Fifteen thousand people showed up to the first show—a number that only grew through the peak season. Having closed for the month of December, the market is opening back up as the TI Flea Pop Up in the historic World’s Fair Building. Expect the same awesome but quirky vendors and delicious food carts—including the ever-delectable Harvey’s Donuts—but keep your eyes peeled for new events like DIY classes and a master barber specializing in 1890s-style dos. You may even get your 15 minutes of fame: A British television show about teens making a buck by rummaging through antiques for resale is filming a finale at the show in March. As always, owners Angie and Charles Asanelli say, “we want the show to be where you will find the cool and unusual and experience the unexpected!” (Admit it, you didn’t see the Brits coming.)
