Outside Lands

Getting in
With public transportation jammed, some guy in an unmarked white van was shuttling people in and out of the park for $4. Other freelance chauffeurs were charging $20.

Free Swag
We hope you picked up at least one free silk-screened tote from the Prius Playground. But you probably didn’t know you could go back every day for more.

Art
You probably saw the mural painters hard at work by the windmill, but did you find TIMF’s coloring contest? The winner got free tickets to the festival in October.

Grub
If you didn’t stray off the beaten path and onto McLaren Pass, you missed the Food Truck Forest and Choco Lands, a group of vendors offering snacks either filled with, covered in, or made from chocolate. What a pity.

Local bands
Faves like Tune-Yards, K.Flay, and the Stone Foxes were at the beginning of the lineup, so if you didn’t show up till 3, when the bigger-name bands started to play, you missed some great stuff.

Treasure Island Music Festival

Getting in
Faves like Tune-Yards, K.Flay, and the Stone Foxes were at the beginning of the lineup, so if you didn’t show up till 3, when the bigger-name bands started to play, you missed some great stuff.

Free swag
They don’t know yet what the corporate giveaways will be, but there’s a free photo booth, including props like fake mustaches you can regale yourself with.

Art
With all the festival noise, it would be easy to miss the Silent Disco, a performance-art piece in which dancers swing to the sound piped through their headphones. Now you know, so don’t.

Grub
Many of the food trucks you know and love will be there, but the lineup wasn’t finalized at press time. Here’s hoping Spencer on the Go! confirms: When’s the last time you ate escargot lollipops to the beat of techno rock?

Local bands
Don’t make the same mistake here, especially on Sunday: The always exciting psychedelic garage band Thee Oh Sees goes on at noon.
