Experience Leonard Cohen runs at the Contemporary Jewish Museum through Feb. 13.
Leonard Cohen was born into a family of fashion manufacturers in Montreal. While the world remembers his prolific work as a poet, novelist and musician, never overlook Cohen’s understanding of style. Black and gray shirts, dark suits and a ubiquitous fedora characterized the life of perhaps the coolest man in every room for generations. Cohen’s Jewish and Buddhist faiths and their mysterious coexistence wove their way through his lyrics, rhyme and politics to create an artistic legacy that still influences artists today. Experience Leonard Cohen at the Contemporary Jewish Museum will honor the artist with a series by four other contemporary creatives—George Fok, Judy Chicago, Candice Breitz and Marshall Trammell—through next winter. The show will feature rare personal reflections about the impact of Cohen’s craft, and visitors also will discover residency improvisation and performances by Trammell. Through Feb. 13, 2022, 736 Mission St.
