A Meatier Mission

Sara Deseran | January 22, 2013 | Food & Drink Story Eat and Drink

Until now, Ryan Farr of 4505 Meats has been a butcher without a home. Not that it has stopped the affable meat monger from packing his butchery classes, landing cookbook deals, or being featured in Food & Wine and the New York Times. All that praise means that his devotees will follow him anywhere—a task that now includes hunting down his tiny new storefront butcher shop on a less-than-savory bit of Mission Street near 15th. There, inside a glass case, you’ll find a rotating array of Farr’s charcuterie, including housemade sausages (merguez, bratwurst, and chorizo), liverwurst, smoked ham, and tongue pastrami, with fresh meats and special-order items such as squab available too. For immediate satisfaction, Farr’s famous hot dogs are also for sale, including the heart-stopping ’Zilla Dog, topped with chicharrones and Namu Gaji’s kimchee.

Starting tomorrow, the butcher shop will be partnering with TCB Courier, a fantastic bike delivery service, to bring customers custom-cut steaks, roasts, sausages and charcuterie. TCB can access any part of the city from $8 to $15 per drop and customers can also schedule a specific time and place for delivery. Reserve early for Super Bowl Sunday. Delivery hours are Wednesday–Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Email special orders after hours at butcher.shop@4505meats.com or leave a message.
