Michelin Releases Bay Area Restaurant Ratings

Scott Lucas | October 22, 2014 | Story Restaurants

French tire company Michelin released its annual rankings of Bay Area restaurants, because why wouldn't you trust a French tire company to tell you where to eat in California? And the food world is abuzz about the surprises on the new list. Namely:

The number of Bay Area restaurants with three stars—the guide's highest honor—increased to four, with addition of Benu and Saison to the French Laundry and the Restaurant at Meadowood. Benu and Saison are the first two restaurants within San Francisco to have been awarded three stars. Acquerello moved up from one star to two, and Kusakabe and Maruy—both sushi joints—were added to the one star list. No restaurants came off the ranking.

2014 continued to be a bad year for putting figs on plates, as Berkeley's Chez Panisse continues to be left off the list, after having been dropped from its one-star rating in 2011. Don't worry too much, Alice—Phillip Roth didn't win the Nobel again this year.
