Whether you're after an extended vacation or a quick weekend getaway, these new hotels and experiences prove ideal destinations for your next excursion.
The dining area in a cottage at Mar Vista Farm Cottages
Amid a much-anticipated season of reopenings, Mar Vista Farm + Cottages is among the flurry of Bay Area hotels and resorts welcoming guests once again. The Gualala destination, reopened under new ownership, along Mendocino County’s “secret coast” comprises 11 vintage cottages and a small farm atop 9 scenic acres. During a stay, visitors will detach from the fast-paced atmosphere of the city and are allowed an opportunity to recharge and reconnect with themselves through tranquil programming: Think yoga and meditation classes, garden tours, stargazing and more. Rooms from $215 per night, 35101 CA-1, Gualala
The lobby of the Kimpton Alton Hotel
Upon entering the lobby of the newly opened Kimpton Alton Hotel in Fisherman’s Wharf, guests are greeted by a retro-chic vibe that aptly reflects the vibrancy of San Francisco. Throughout the impressively appointed 248-room hotel, moody colors adorn the walls, custom furniture with vintage-style fabrics outfit the guest rooms and musical-inspired elements sprinkle the interior in the form of record players, curated vinyl records and guest-recommended tunes on the queue. “We are delighted to welcome guests to the new Kimpton Alton Hotel,” says general manager Marco Chavez. “Fisherman’s Wharf is a neighborhood that defines San Francisco, the hometown of our brand, and it’s exciting to showcase this incredible place in the way only Kimpton can.” Rooms from $289 per night, 495 Beach St., San Francisco
Palihotel San Francisco’s Fisher Loft restaurant
One of Palisociety’s newest West Coast outposts, Palihotel San Francisco, is finally opening its doors on the tail end of a COVID-19-induced closure, which came shortly after the hotel’s debut in February of last year. The sophisticated, 82-room destination inhabits the historic Stockton Street building that was once the Navarre Guest House and, most recently, the Mystic Hotel. Palihotel’s interiors fuse the old and the new, achieving an inviting loft-style atmosphere that’s distinct from anything else in the city. On the second floor sits restaurant, bar and private dining room Fisher Loft, which serves elevated American comfort dishes like burgers, sandwiches and salads alongside an expansive drink program. Rooms from $205 per night, 417 Stockton St., San Francisco
