A San Francisco classic has recently received an eye-catching and unmissable glow-up. Old Potrero Straight Rye Whiskey, credited as the first American craft Whiskey to reinvigorate the nation's liquor market since Prohibition, is now sporting a new bottle design that thoughtfully embodies the contemporary spirit of today while still honoring the classic charm that makes San Francisco's spirit through its carefully detailed features.
The rich contents within the bottles still remain the same though, which are its signature award-winning 100% malted rye whiskey, artfully aged to produce the smoothest and complex mouthfeel and flavors.

Local favorite Old Potrero Rye Whiskey is truly a testament to San Francisco's bold pioneering and perservering spirit, fully captured in a quality liquid that's just as unique, trailblazing, and full-bodied. Originally founded visionary and Hotaling & Co. mastermind Fritz Maytag, Old Portrero has consistently provided an artisanal whiskey experience to both the consumer and in its production.
Since 1994, the San Francisco-based distillery has been utilizing exclusive copper pot stills to distill the refined product in a method that's honorably traditional and yields a much more distinct flavor profile.
In 2010 Maytag's close colleague Bruce Joseph became the Master Distiller where he currently continues, producing only the most exquisite batches, especially now into their new elevated bottles.
“We are thrilled to usher Old Potrero into a new era,” Joseph gleefully remarks, emphasizing the remarkable modernization of the bottle and brand. "Old Potrero’s new packaging and bottle embody the boldness of its home-base, San Francisco. A city that’s resilient, creative and richly historic, just like Old Potrero.”
Stranger & Stranger was the agency that created the packaging redesign, which now sports a fashionable natural cork stopper with a dark wooden top stamped with Old Portrero's premiere label.
The bottle then has perforated edges and holding shape mimics our city's legendary historical cable cars, with the front label also paying homage to vintage San Francisco landmarks.
The grand copper still is adorned beautifully on the label, which is resplendently embellished with script using the Fog City Gothic font, reminiscent to the typeface seen all across classic San Francisco signs.
Hotaling & Co.'s Senior Brand Lead of American Whiskeys Luis Rivas Ball proudly elucidates, “The bottle’s design was inspired by the juxtaposition of San Francisco’s architecture, between the past and the present,” further stating, "Old Potrero is a true representation of San Francisco."
It doesn't get anymore truer to San Francisco's culture and feel than with Old Portrero, as sipping on either their nutty and black cherry-like 6 year-old aged Straight Rye Whiskey, or their toasty Old Single Barrel 100% malted Malted Rye Whiskey will channel the city's spirit.
With their sleek and cutting-edge bottle, you will also feel the sense of Old Portrero's modern approach and innovation.
