Phase 1: Packing Up

Nina Martin | May 23, 2013 | Story Galleries and Performance

Hey, what’s that LOVE painting doing next to that Matisse? This isn’t some radical, genre-squashing exhibition: It’s a behind-the-scenes peek at SFMOMA’s fifth-floor staging area and temporary storage tank (with a cameo by museum director Neal Benezra). "It ’s like a painting library," says installation manager Brandon Larson, who likes to stop in and check out all the bizarre juxtapositions. "There’s something very interesting about seeing a grouping of artworks that would never normally go together."
