The Waldo Tunnel.
The plan to rename the North Bay's Waldo Tunnel after Robin Williams is now one step closer to reality, as Marin assemblymember Mark Levine officially introduced a resolution that would carry out the change.
Efforts to rename the tunnel after the comedian and actor took off with a change.org petition that began circulating soon after his suicide. After it gained tens of thousands of signatures (it stands at just more than 59,000 currently) and the support of Williams’s family, the assemblymember agreed to introduce the change. Yesterday, at the first day of the new legislative session, he did.
You can read the full text of ACR 1 here. In part, it reads, “Robin Williams will be remembered for making us laugh and for his generosity to others. It is altogether fitting to officially name what is commonly known as the Waldo Tunnel after Robin Williams.”
The cost of changing the tunnel’s name remains to be determined. The resolution will be referred to committee for further action. If it moves forward, the change could happen within a year.
