Rolling in the Deep

Emily Cohen | February 29, 2012 | Lifestyle Story Reviews Culture Music

The Oxford English Dictionary defines eschatology as the department of theological science concerned with the so-called final events of humankind: death, judgment, heaven, and hell. Wymond Miles, songwriter and guitar player for San Francisco’s The Fresh & Onlys, takes an eschatological turn on his new EP, Earth Has Doors (Sacred Bones Records), on which he explores such existential topics by connecting with his natural surroundings and the earth on a spiritual level. Surprisingly, the result is not preachy and hard to sift through. It’s actually a beautifully rich and ethereal collection of songs that weave through druggy travails and thoughtful meditation. If this is the end of days, then I’ll gladly welcome Earth Has Doors as the soundtrack into the void.
