June 28, 2012 |Kelsey and Mike Sheofsky’s first date was a camping trip along the Santa Barbara County coast; fittingly, the now-married couple just launched luxe camping (aka glamping) outfitter Shelter Co.—conceived while canoeing on Tomales Bay. The pair (he’s a furniture fabricator, she’s an event planner) installs 15-foot tents at any campsite or backyard, each styled with a full-size bed, side tables, lamps, rugs, and lounge chairs, starting at $2,000 for two nights. From there, add-ons get progressively glampier, with a canvas doghouse running $100, a 75-person outdoor cinema for $2,000, and a “camp butler,” who’ll manage tasks from grilling to turndown service, for $1,000. shelter-co.com
