Tired or turkey talk? These new restaurants—with carne asado tacos, eggplant cannelloni and Korean fried chicken—will make you forget all about Thanksgiving.
Seasonal petit fours at Lord Stanley
GOODNIGHT’S PRIME STEAK + SPIRITS
At Goodnight’s Prime Steak + Spirits in Healdsburg, chef David Lawrence serves wood-fired cuts of beef alongside traditional sides like Parker House rolls, mac and cheese and wild mushrooms. “My philosophy is to use the best ingredients and to let them shine,” Lawrence says. “One dish I love is our pan-roasted shrimp, head-on Gulf shrimp with garlic herb butter that oozes flavor served with slices of grilled sourdough bread.” Most of the produce is from the restaurant’s garden, the cocktails are artisanal, and the wine list is long and local. 113 Plaza St., Healdsburg, 707.543.1000, goodnightsrestaurant.com
Poached shrimp at Lord Stanley
LORD STANLEY
In 2021, Lord Stanley, the eight-year-old Russian Hill fine dining destination, shifted to a guest chef residence known as Turntable at Lord Stanley. Now Turntable is going on the road, and the team is bringing back Lord Stanley as a French bistro with Korean influences helmed by chef Nathan Matkowsky. What to order? “I enjoy all of our proteins and fish, especially our aged ducks, 48-hour boneless short ribs and crispy pork belly,” Matkowsky says. “Also, our local black cod served with a red wine sauce—or cod au vin as we like to call it.” Bon appetit! 2065 Polk St., 415.518.2624, lordstanleysf.com
Taco Rouge on Broadway
TACO ROUGE
Polk Street destination Nick’s Crispy Tacos has transformed into Taco Rouge. From chef Daniel Tellez, the new eatery serves tacos all day, every day, until the wee hours of the night. With inventive menu items like taco arabe (a taco infused with the flavors of shawarma), these are not your abuela’s tacos. Of the new hot spot, Tellez says, “We hope Taco Rouge will be a community gathering spot, a family favorite for takeout, a neighborhood date-night destination, a meeting place with friends to watch sports and live music and a place for late-night dancing,” says Tellez. 1500 Broadway, 415.374.7053, tacorouge.com
Penny Roma has been a hit since it opened two years ago.
CORZETTI
Another new all-day restaurant is Corzetti in the Hotel G downtown. Although chef Tali Missirlian admits that SF might not need more Italian eateries, her thoughtfulness, attention to detail and delicious cuisine proves there’s room for one more. “I want a dish to give someone pause, not because they taste something they never had before, but because they are struck with the nostalgia of eating a tomato off the vine as a child or sneaking a lick off grandma’s spoon,” Missirlian explains. “Feeding the heart is the best part.” 398 Geary St., 415.314.5288, corzettisf.com
Penny Roma’s expanded space now showcases chefs working their magic.
PENNY ROMA
The city’s hardest reservation has just gotten a little easier. Penny Roma, arguably the most popular restaurant in the Mission since it opened two years ago, has debuted an expansion. Amanda Flores, the director of operations for the Flour + Water Restaurant Group, which oversees Penny Roma, says, “It has been so fun to have this new space where we can put our pasta production front and center for Penny Roma guests while also creating an option for solo diners and walk-ins.” Enjoy tonnarelli cacio e pepe, rigatoni all’amatriciana and gnocchi alla Genovese at this lively hot spot. 3000 20th St., 415.826.7004, pennyroma.com
