Ceremony & Reception: Filoli Historic House & Garden
Jess wore a Marchesa gown for the ceremony, while Hao opted for threads by Ralph Lauren.
THE COUPLE Jessica (Jess) and Hao forged a friendship as computer science majors and members of Greek life at Carnegie Mellon University. Still, the pair didn’t start dating until five years after graduation and while living across the country from each other, with Jess in New York and Hao in San Francisco. Eventually, the duo decided to take the plunge together, hopping across the pond to Berlin and getting engaged on their rooftop during a stunning San Francisco sunset.
The couple’s Chinese heritage shone throughout, even in the invitations.
THE PARTY It was extremely important for the couple to celebrate their Chinese heritage, starting with a welcome banquet featuring traditional dishes at Harborview restaurant. The bride wore a qipao she sewed herself based on a dress her grandmother once wore, alongside a matching suit coat for Hao. The couple started the reception with a bang, including a traditional Chinese toast with Moutai baijiu and a roaring lion dance.
The bridal party celebrated with sudsy sips.
THE HONEYMOON For their honeymoon, Jess and Hao picked the city where they truly developed their love: Berlin. “We love Berlin and hadn’t been back since before the pandemic,” they explain. “We loved visiting all of our favorite places and trying new things that had popped up since.”
One of the couple’s must-haves? Multiple disco balls over the dance floor were especially significant.
