The San Francisco Opera launched its 102nd season with a benefit to support the company’s artistic initiatives and the guild’s education programs.

Co-chaired by Romana D. Bracco and Valerie Crane Dorfman, the festive evening honored John A. and Cynthia Fry Gunn for their exceptional dedication to the opera, with John serving 16 years as chair of the opera board.

The night began with a reception and dinner at City Hall, highlighted by a surprise performance of Verdi’s “Anvil Chorus” from Il Trovatore by the San Francisco Opera Chorus on the rotunda steps, introduced by Tad and Dianne Taube and general director Matthew Shilvock, as a tribute to the Gunns.
