Shreve & Co. was established in 1852, just four years after the discovery of gold in the California hills. Family-run and one of the oldest independent jewelers in the country, Shreve enjoys a pre-eminence in the San Francisco Bay Area as its oldest retail establishment and the only jeweler to survive the 1906 earthquake. Shreve & Co. takes great pride in its long-standing partnerships with the finest jewelry and timepiece brands in the world.
Throughout the 20th century, Shreve & Co. was celebrated around the globe for its innovative designs and impeccable craftsmanship. Shreve has created special commissions as well as hosted numerous special exhibitions through the years, bringing many priceless jewels and object d’art to San Francisco for the enjoyment of its clientele.
In 1982, Shreve & Co. was acquired by Schiffman’s, a fifth-generation, family-owned and operated independent luxury jewelry. Today, Shreve is a destination serving a local and international clientele of connoisseurs and collectors of fine jewelry and timepieces. It has a location in the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, California in addition to its flagship store at 150 Post St. in San Francisco.
