San Francisco is a renowned hub for fostering new ideas and stimulating artistic creativity. Within our food scene, cutting-edge fusions are nothing new, however this latest culinary collaboration is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.
In the most successful and ambitious of crossovers, two of the Bay’s tastiest namesakes- Souvla and Square Pie Guys- have recently joined forces to provide the community with a new and original pizza masterpiece.
Available now through June, fans of both the Greek staple and the pizza genius can come together and share slices of their premiere hybrid creation, which is the Square Pie Guys’ signature Detroit-style crust topped with Souvla’s decadent chicken salad.
Serving the community in more ways than one, the two comforting companies will donate a portion of their proceeds to support La Cocina, a nonprofit working to support problems of equity in business ownership for women, immigrants and people of color.
La Cocina is partnering up with BlueCut Aprons for Mother's Day, with 20% of proceeds benefitting La Cocina.
La Cocina began in 2005 right in the Mission District with a drive to cultivate low-income food entrepreneurs into fully establishing and flourishing their businesses.
By providing up-and-coming businesses, especially those by women, immigrants, and people of color, the right resources of affordable kitchens and industry-grade tools, they can become self-sufficient and financially secure to then outwardly support and benefit their local community.
This newest and exciting union of the finest chefs have dubbed themselves "The Souvla Pie Guys."
Souvla is a one-of-a-kind treat of a restaurant in San Francisco, serving up modern fast-fine Greek since 2014. All their naturally-raised meats are fresh rotisserie roasted and inspired by the traditional casual souvlaki venues around Greece. Their chicken salad is scrumptious, authentic, and refreshingly healthy, making it the perfect topping to their new partner's equally flavorful crust.
Likewise, named as Top Pizza in the East Bay by the SF Chronicle, Square Pie Guys takes their culinary craft just as serious. With flagships in both San Francisco and most recently Oakland, their thick, Detroit-style offerings are unique community hits. Pioneering in all things inventive and unconventional (like their "za'atar chicken pie with tahini and Castelvetrano olives), their Souvla-fusion pie fits right into their roster, with the combinations of textures and flavors coexisting in perfect harmony.
During lockdown, the two companies have been trustworthy anchors within their communities, staying open to provide their loyal patrons with fresh and quick delivery. Today, with this spring’s limited edition partnership, they continue to devotedly serve and even surprise their large fanbase.
