Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen and the San Francisco Symphony kicked off the symphony’s 113th season with a spectacular opening gala.

The evening began with the orchestra performing Sergei Prokofiev’s “Montagues and Capulets” from Romeo and Juliet.

Renowned pianist Lang Lang then joined Salonen and the orchestra for Camille Saint-Saëns’ “Piano Concerto No. 2.”

Following a dramatic rendition of Prokofiev’s “Death of Tybalt,” the concert concluded on a playful note with Saint-Saëns’ The Carnival of the Animals, featuring both Lang Lang and his wife, pianist Gina Alice.
