What: Fauna, the sister bar to restaurant Flora in Downtown Oakland.

Vibe: art deco shaken and stirred with film noir memorabilia and taxidermy.

Prices: House cocktails, $8; draft beer, $3–$5.

Order: Dial D for Derby (Four Roses bourbon, grapefruit juice, and coffee-honey syrup).

Snack on: The classic shrimp cocktail.

Best time to go: After a show at the Fox or Paramount theaters, which are only a block away.

What to wear: Distinctive eyeglasses.
