The Best Day of Music You Didn't Know About

Annie Tittiger | August 20, 2012 | Lifestyle Story Culture Music

Leave it to Mumford & Sons to tour in the most unconventional way possible. The band has been bouncing around the U.S., Britian, Ireland and Australia, putting on daylong music festivals in the most obscure places. (Ever heard of Dungog?)

This Saturday, they’re taking over the Monterey Fairgrounds. The band gathered some of its favorite acts like the chaotic, gypsy cabaret of Gogo Bordello, indie rockers Grouplove, the London DJ/Malawi singer collaboration The Very Best, and local folk duo Two Gallants. Mumford & Sons even plans on discussing some Steinbeck, and since their new album Babel comes out on September 24th, there’s no doubt you’ll be hearing new tracks. Of course, a band as big as Mumford can never fly completely under the radar, because the show did sell out (thank God for Stubhub), but at the very least you should at least troll Cannery Row Saturday night as the band promises, “once night falls, we╩╝ll roll down to Monterey proper: Cannery Row, the Aquarium, and lots of other cool spots.”

Saturday, August 25th, Monterey Fairgrounds, Monterey
