Yerba Buena Island opens its first six-story condo, The Bristol.
One of the new model residences in The Bristol at Yerba Buena Island
Last fall, I was ferried around in a Jeep by two people from the development team at Yerba Buena Island (yerbabuenaislandsf.com). We toured the long-awaited residential Valhalla with postcard views of the bay and the city skyline. The big takeaway: Even before the first phase opened, it felt like a sanctuary, or at least a well-considered sense of place 10 minutes from downtown.
Open floor plans and views are prominent features at The Bristol.
That’s the point, of course: a city getaway without truly leaving.
The minds behind Yerba Buena Island include boutique developer Wilson Meany (wilsonmeany.com) and Stockbridge Capital Group (stockbridge.com), with creative collaboration from renowned talent like Hart Howerton (harthowerton.com), Edmonds + Lee Architects (edmondslee.com), Meyer Davis (meyerdavis.com) and Aidlin Darling (aidlindarlingdesign.com). They’ve created a nature-inspired community with townhomes, flats, condos, penthouses and estate homesites—all with wellness amenities and easy access to parks, Clipper Cove beach and 5 miles of trails. It’s part of the adjacent Treasure Island master plan, which includes everything from hotels and entertainment venues to schools and parks.
Kendra Smoot decorated the model residences.
Perched on a tree-lined hillside and anchored by a Grandiflora Victoria magnolia tree, the first residences to open at Yerba Buena Island are part of The Bristol: studio, one-, two-and three-bedroom luxury residences and penthouses, ranging in size from approximately 630 to 2,248 square feet. Residents will love the glass-framed lobby, complete with a Flexform sectional and handknotted Tibetan rugs, as well as an outdoor terrace with exquisite Bover lighting, built-in grills, an outdoor fireplace and furniture perfect for reading, socializing or merely taking in the 360-degree views (including the eastern span of the Bay Bridge).
Exceptional views of the city from Yerba Buena Island
“As design enthusiasts, my husband and I were delighted to discover that the sophisticated interior finishes and thoughtful layout of the space perfectly suit our lifestyle,” says Diane Master, one of the first residents. Homes offer floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies (available in many condos), walk-in closets and elegant primary suites with spalike baths featuring free-standing soaking tubs and Carrara marble vanity countertops.
Two model residences also will turn heads this fall. Designed in collaboration with Edmonds + Lee Architects and stylist Kendra Smoot (kendrasmoot.com), with art curated by San Francisco’s Jessica Silverman Gallery (jessicasilvermangallery.com) and furniture from Minotti (minotti.com) and B&B Italia (bebitalia.com), the newly completed one- and two-bedroom models are must-sees.

“Inspired by the locale, both the stunning nature that surrounds us and the cultural vibrancy of the Bay Area, we were thrilled to realize the combination of deep restorative calm and lively civic life in the model spaces at The Bristol,” says Vivian Lee, principal at Edmonds + Lee Architects. “We layered natural materials to create a feeling of sophisticated coziness and warmth, while also introducing depth and texture.”
Another lure for homeowners is The Island Club, a 10,000-square-foot rejuvenation center with unobstructed city skyline views and the Golden Gate Bridge, plus a dining room, bar, game room, spa, sauna, massage room, fitness studio, terrace and outdoor lap pool. The space parallels the worlds-away mentality of the entire development, while having the best vantage point to watch the daily theater of nature and the city we all adore.
