The Great Jersey Debate: Fashion Experts Weigh in on the New Golden State Warriors Unis

Jeremy Dorn | March 6, 2013 | Lifestyle Story City Life

The Warriors recently debuted a new basketball jersey that ditches the usual tank top and replaces it with a sleeved shirt that, to our eyes, makes the players look more like professional ice cream vendors. But not everyone feels this way! Here, we asked a few San Francisco fashion connoisseurs to weigh in on the change. They rated the uniforms on a 1-to-10 scale, with 1 being a sin against the gods of basketball and fashion, and 10 being the sartorial love-baby of Lebron James and Kevin Durant.

Expert #1: Jenny Chung, Owner of Acrimony

Like or hate? Like!

Grade: 8.5

Suggestion for improvement: "I would be excited if they brought the little shorts back like Larry Bird used to wear. I'm a big proponent of functionality, and with the 360-degree range of motion in the arms it seems like it provides some level of flexibility. They are the only ones to wear sleeves, so this is definitely unique, special and trend-setting."

Expert #2: Otto Zoell, Owner of MAAS and Stacks

Like or hate? Hate!

Grade: 2

Suggestion: "I'd go back to "The City" jerseys and the ones from the 2007 playoff team, and leave the sleeves to soccer. The new Warriors jerseys aren't for me. I can appreciate the Warriors organization looking to do something fresh and exciting, but making your players look like they got on the wrong bus to a San Jose Earthquakes game isn't what the Warriors need."

Expert #3: Gabe Garcia, Owner at The Brooklyn Circus SF

Like or hate? Indifferent, leaning negative.

Grade: 3 "Becaue of the lack of authenticity."

Suggestion: "I'd take it back to the tank top. I don't think it's a basketball jersey anymore. I'm not sure if it's the right move. I'm a big fan of history and heritage; I like things in an authentic way."
