Public street games galore at the Come Out and Play Festival + Exhibition.
The annual tongue-and-cheek ode to Turkey Day gets started long before the family soirees and wide-eyed belly stuffing. Although the looped course through Golden Gate Park’s grassy meadows is mainly flat, runners of the five-mile race can still expect to burn roughly 600 calories, while costumed Pilgrim Promenade walkers will burn about 300 on the shorter, three-mile course.
Turkey Trot & Pilgrim Promenade, Thurs. Nov. 22, 8:30 a.m. @ Golden Gate Park’s Polo Field
Turkey Trot 2012: 17th Annual Americana Music Feast
Working up a dizzy (and a sweat) at Café Du Nord’s annual post-Thanksgiving jamboree is definitely what the doctor ordered. Slip on your dancing shoes and shake, boogie, and twirl to the twangy, honky-tonk smoked country rock of Colonel Jimmy & The Blackfish, and Misisipi Mike & The Midnight Gamblers, or the infectious country twang of Hang Jones.
Turkey Trot 2012: 17th Annual Americana Music Feast, Fri., Nov. 23, 8 p.m. @ Café Du Nord
Run Wild San Francisco
Views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay are sure to make the post-dinner burn-off a little easier, especially when you add creatively decorated Santa hats and a spirited “santamental” state of mind to the mix. Trek the 5K from Crissy Field, west to Fort Point and the Golden Gate Bridge before looping back to the finish line at Mason Street. Even better? Run Wild is a race with a cause. Five percent of race day purchases at the Sports Basement Persidio (this year’s sponsor) benefit the San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program.
Run Wild San Francisco, Sun. Nov. 25. 9 a.m. @ Crissy Field
Come Out and Play Festival + Exhibition
For the adventure seeker: the third SF edition of the New York-based event is designed to bring creativity and community interaction to public spaces through board games, puzzles, laser mazes, and alternative sports games like Undercover Assassins—a team-based elimination game that will transform the streets of SoMa into an outdoor battle zone on Nov. 27. On Dec. 1 and 2, the festival of street games culminates with a bevy of diversions designed to get you up and body moving: Third-Person Outer Body Labyrinth, Sloth Chase, Humans vs. Mosquitoes, and more.
