FallFest is this Saturday (you can get tickets here). It's our party, so please indulge us a little hype. The event is ridiculous. The food is abundant and delicious, the drinks are copious (and also delicious), and the music is loud and fast. It's more or less the highlight of our social calendar. (Aside from this. And this. And this.) But partying, like most things in life, is better with a little preparation. So here's our insider guide to this weekend's event.
Wear sunscreen. FallFest is held outdoors, at Justin Herman Plaza. The forecast for Saturday is 70 degrees and partly cloudy. This is practically a desert heatwave for SF. Come prepared.
Take public transportation. There's a possibility that another BART strike will make it difficult to get there. But parking is expensive—and leaves you in need of a designated driver. Even if BART isn't running, there's MUNI, the ferries, and even BABS. Don't forget about BABS!
Pace yourself. The first time we went to FallFest, we drank so much wine that we couldn't enjoy the beer or the cocktails. Find your rhythm. Take in a cooking demo or two (see below). Dance between drinks. Whatever—just don't keel over before noon.
Learn something. There will be cooking demos by folks from restaurants like Aziza, Lolinda, and Mason Pacific, and drink seminars from bartenders at Novela, Fog City, the Tonga Room, and more. It's a great chance to dive into the ins and the outs of your favorite places—or to find new ones.
Eat everything. Seriously. There's nothing we've ever regretted eating at FallFest. Just say yes, no matter what the food is. Gluttony is not a sin here. (But, remember the pace yourself rule too.)
Say hi to us. Most of the San Francisco magazine staff is going to be there. You can tell us how much you loved—or hated—that one article. But tell us you loved it, though. Please?
