Former Sushi Ran sushi chef Nori Kusakabe’s first solo project brings the minimalist approach of high-end Tokyo sushi restaurants to Jackson Square. Expect set-price kaiseki-style menus and a streamlined decor that marries natural wood and exposed brick. 584 Washington St. (near Hotaling St.)

Aveline (Union Square)
ETA: Early spring
Former Top Chef contestant Casey Thompson kicks off the Warwick Hotel’s revamp. Dishes will include the likes of olive oil–poached chicken with eggplant crème. Beretta vet Adam Wilson will crank out pastis-and gin-spiked cocktails in the glitzy adjacent bar, called the European. 490 Geary St. (at Taylor St.)

Hog Island Oyster Co. (Embarcadero)
ETA: Spring
Good news for oyster lovers: Hog Island is remodeling its Ferry Building location, expanding into the former Ferry Plaza Seafood spot. Expect a space designed by Cass Calder Smith, an expanded menu, and cocktails. The rocking views of the bay will remain. 1 Ferry Building Marketplace. (near Market St.)
