Designer Tineke Triggs reimagines a home in SF’s Marina neighborhood.
Designer Tineke Triggs wanted the dining room, complete with its Alfonso Marina table and Gregorius Pineo chandelier, to reflect the natural light coming from the courtyard.
THE PROJECT
Owning a 6,000-squarefoot home in the Marina neighborhood near the Palace of Fine Arts was a dream for a couple with two children, ages 12 and 15. They loved the property’s old, beautiful bones—especially a lovely courtyard reminiscent of the wife’s roots in Latin America. The only issue: The home boasted a French Country aesthetic for its exterior and a Spanish-style interior. The couple knew they had to streamline the look of every space to make it feel like home.
The home’s living room features a Duke sofa from Verellen, a coffee table from Taracea and side tables from Arteriors.
THE TEAM
The couple selected renowned Bay Area designer Tineke Triggs (@tineketriggs) for the project. “I’m a mixologist. I like to design to the style of my clients and push the boundaries of texture and color,” says Triggs. “I like to reimage a space to take on the style of the people living in the home while maintaining the house’s architecture.”
Trigg says she wanted to pay homage to the home’s Latin roots for this project while showcasing a more contemporary style. “I also wanted the home to match the couple’s personality and be perfect for entertaining. We also wanted to make it have some cool spaces for him and her. We made a man cave for him, so the living room was more fashion-forward and feminine for her,” she says.
The kitchen shines with elements like breakfast chairs from Casamidy and multicolor mosaic backsplash tiles from Country Floors.
THE GOALS
“Being of Latin descent, the wife wanted to stay true to the vibe and architecture,” says Triggs. “The open courtyard was important as it allowed them to entertain on two sides of the home while still feeling connected. As a fashion executive, the wife wanted the home’s vibe to reflect her connection to fashion.”
Gorgeously curated art plays a crucial role in the home’s powerful aesthetic.
LIVING & DINING ROOMS
Triggs says she wanted this area to look light and bright since it opens onto the courtyard. The designer created two seating areas that flowed naturally to the outdoor space to bring this idea to fruition. Timeless furniture choices marked her strategy, with a Duke sofa from Verellen (verellen.biz), a coffee table from Taracea (taracea.com), side tables from Arteriors (arteriors.com), chandeliers from Rose Tarlow (rosetarlow.com), chairs from Olivya Stone (olyvyastone.com) and pillows covered in fabric from S. Harris (fabricut.com).
Art played a critical role in the dining room, as Triggs wanted it to serve as a conversational anchor for guests. The space boasts De La Vega (dlvdesigns.com) chairs, a Century Furniture (centuryfurniture.com) table, an Alfonso Marina (alfonsomarina.com) buffet, a Gregorius Pineo (gregoriuspineo.com) chandelier and Martyn Lawrence Bullard (martynlawrencebullard.com) window treatments.
Natural light bathes a cozy banquette lined in Tiger Leather. Adjacent to the kitchen, it’s a perfect space for quick meals and catching up on work.
KITCHEN
“This was a traditional kitchen, which could work in a Spanish home, but I needed to freshen it up and make it less heavy. I wanted to blend in the Spanish revival again with Moorish tiles,” says Triggs, who incorporated elements like bar stools from Thomas Hayes Studio (thomashayesstudio.com), breakfast chairs from Casamidy (casamidy.com), a banquette lined in Tiger Leather (tigerleather.com) and multicolor mosaic backsplash tiles from Country Floors (countryfloors.com).
PRIMARY SUITE
“My client has roots in Argentina, so I wanted the room to feel like we were in a hacienda,” says Triggs, who added a combination of color and comfort. She outfitted the space with a four-poster bed in ebonized mahogany from Aesthetic Decor (aestheticdecor.com), a nightstand from Elitis (elitis.fr) and a custom dresser with a smoke-light stain finish with charcoal fabric from Designer Guild (designerguild.com). Tippi’s white wallcovering from Phillip Jeffries (phillipjeffries.com) frames the room, and a chandelier from Paul Ferrante (paulferrante.com) offers gorgeous lumens to the quiet sanctuary.

HOW THE HOME IS LIVING
Triggs, known for taking beautiful risks throughout a storied career, continues to wow her clients and look for new opportunities to help them create timeless homes. In this case, the designer hit a bull’s eye once again. “They couldn’t be happier,” she says.
