A virtual tour of Lucky Strike

Diane Dorrans Saeks | March 8, 2012 | Lifestyle Story City Life

The upscale bowling chain Lucky Strike unveils its newest location tonight with a party in support of local non-profit Tipping Point Community. The guest list is loaded with VIPs, not all of them noted bowlers. Expected attendees include Vanessa and Billy Getty, Sloan and Roger Barnett, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, Mayor Ed Lee, Ali and Mark Pincus (CEO of Zynga), and Google SVP Marissa Mayer and her husband Zack Bogue. (Unfortunately not expected: co-owner Brian Wilson, who is presumably too busy with Giants spring training in Arizona.)
The alley, located near AT&T Park, is as much a velvet-rope nightclub as it is a place to knock down some pins. It features 12 state-of-the-art lanes, giant projection screens running local artwork, a 40-foot bar with reclaimed 100-year-old Douglas fir beams, and a menu of comfort food that's a good deal less greasy than most alley fare. Lucky Strike founder Steven Foster enlisted Ray Azoulay, owner and creator of Obsolete Gallery in Los Angeles, to design the neon-lit dining, bar, and entertainment spaces and amp up the surreal, funhouse atmosphere. The Einstein Room, which can be reserved for private parties, is loaded with a pool table, ping pong table, vintage chess and checkers tables, a carnival claw game, and a white vinyl private padded bar. Other elements include a photo booth station and vintage tobacco leather tobacco sofas—everything you need for a not-so-quiet night of bowling. Lucky Strike, 200 King St.
